ROH Review for 1/9/16

By Nathan Neumann, Twitter @Headliner5

Hello Eyes On The Ring readers and welcome to my first ROH TV review for the year of 2016. Between some best of shows and some shows where I didn’t have the time to do a review due to my work schedule we are finally back in the swing of things as we start off a new year of honor.  So with that said lets not waste any more time and get into the first episode of ROH TV of the new year.

Match 1
Roppongi Vice vs. All Night Express

Thoughts: It was great to see Roppongi Vice on ROH TV as Baretta was a guy that WWE really screwed up on but he’s now found his groove in New Japan and his chemistry with Rocky Romero is great. All Night Express are a team that have suffered from some time off due to Kenny King going to TNA briefly but ever since they reformed at Final Battle they haven’t lost a step.  This match was very fun and featured some great action.  At the start of the match the two teams felt each other out.

Baretta hits a corkscrew splash on the outside of the ring from the guardrail onto both ANX members who were standing.  Back in the ring and King hits a nice head and arm suplex.  Later on Baretta and Romero hit a combination Lung Blower Footstomp combo for a near fall. Roppongi Vice hit Strong zero on Rhett Titus and Baretta goes to pin him but Titus wasn’t the legal man, which lead to King running into the ring and stealing the victory via roll up.

Match Result: The All Night Express defeat Roppongi Vice via pinfall after a roll up

Match Rating: **1/2

Fun match to kick off the show although I would have preferred RPG Vice to get the win but I understand why that didn’t happen due to the fact that RPG Vice aren’t an ROH regular tag team.

From there the Kingdom make their way out to the ring complete with Michael Bennett who’s now in TNA so that’s a thing. Adam Cole cuts a promo which leads to Kyle O’Reilly making his presence felt at ringside and trying to get at O’Reilly.

Security wont let him in the ring and instead he’s just being taunted by Adam Cole who’s inside of the ring. The Young Bucks make their way out to the ring and all hell breaks loose which leads to a match being signed for next week as it will be The Kingdom vs. The Young Bucks vs. ReDRagon in a Philadelphia street fight which should be a lot of fun.

From there we head into the next match of the night.

Match 2
Dijak and Diesel vs. War Machine

Thoughts: Fun match here with some interesting storyline progression and character development but we will get to that a bit later. The match begins and Truth slides the book of the Truth into the ring immediately only to have Donovan Dijak kick it back at Truth and out of the ring.  Rowe hits a superman punch and follows it up with a German suplex.

The match goes on for a few moments longer until War Machine are able to hit Fallout to pick up the quick victory and Donovan Dijak takes the fall.

Match Result: War Machine defeats Diesel and Dijak via pinfall after Fallout

Match Rating: N/A: Match was too short to give it a rating.

After the match Truth Martini grabs a microphone and precedes to call Donovan the weak link of the House Of Truth, Truth then slaps Dijak in the face and then J Diesel chokes out Dijak while Truth proceeds to trash talk him.  Donovan manages to turn things around and hit Feast Your Eyes.

So Donovan has officially been excommunicated from the House Of Truth. But Nana was at ringside and handed Dijak an envelope. So, it looks like Donovan may have a future within the new Embassy--which if that’s true will be interesting to see.

From there we go to a pre-taped promo from Kyle O’Reilly where he compares Michael Bennett to a tree and well… he’s not that far off in that comparison.

From there we go to the final match of the night.

Main Event – Match 3
Dalton Castle vs. Matt Sydal vs. Jay Briscoe vs. Moose

Thoughts: This match was very back and forth and pretty crazy so I will try and cover it the best I can but I don’t like recapping matches like these because there is too much to keep track of.  So I apologize if this part of the review is lacking a bit. At one point in the match Moose begins punching both Briscoe and Sydal in the face but then Moose eats a German suplex from Dalton Castle for a near fall.

Castle, Briscoe and Moose conveniently find themselves on the outside of the ring long enough for Sydal to wipe out everyone with a moonsault.  Back in the ring and Jay hits a neck breaker on Sydal for a near fall.  The match concludes when Sydal goes for the shooting star press but lands on his feet only to get hit with the bang a rang by Dalton Castle as Castle picks up the win in the main event.

Match Result: Dalton Castle defeats Matt Sydal, Jay Briscoe, and Moose via pinfall after The Bangarang

Match Rating: **3/4

Really surprised Dalton won here but Sydal was the only one appropriate to take the fall in the match due to the fact that ROH is still trying to protect both Moose and Briscoe.
